The Golf du Roncemay* was an ideal for our weekend. Situated some 150 kilometres from Paris, an hotel on site, a challenging but playable course with greens that many of us were glad to see were not too fast - the slopes on the greens would have made putting even more challenging if the greens had been faster! And superb weather throughout.
The weekend was very ably organized by Claude Jacques and the section members present thanked him heartily for the hard work that we all know is involved in making a success of this type of event. We were also happy to get a fleeting glimpse of Elisabeth and Eric Lacey (who had been instrumental in recommending the location) and Julie and Alan Peacock who came to check that everything was running smoothly.
The Kiwi Cup, which is won by the best stableford score in our Saturday competition, was won by Monica Greenwood, with Jeanne Delacroix and Jenny Pratt also putting in very creditable performances in the Ladies’ net section. The men were once again beaten into submission by the ladies, but Bertrand Delacroix, James Moore and Rafik Tagher came through with reasonably flying colours.
We also play for a gross prize, the Dean Trophy, that was contributed by Ebba and Andrew Dean some years ago. Once again, this was won by Sue Hall who had a memorable run of three birdies and two pars from the 13th to the 17th.
Our usual Sunday fun event – in this case a 4 ball scramble “à la française” - was won by the team of James Moore, Claude Jacques, Jenny Pratt and Bertrand Delacroix with an excellent score of 43 points.
